ARREST OF WANTED CAR BREAKING Thief.
In the early hours of this morning, Watchtower Group operators received an alert of a suspect coming down from the mountain and approaching one of our client’s properties.
Known to our teams as “Mountain Man”, the suspect is believed to be linked to a number of theft-out-of-motor-vehicle incidents on roads along the mountain-facing areas of the Atlantic Seaboard. His alleged modus operandi is to come down from the mountain, target vehicles and then flee straight back up the slope, making an arrest exceptionally difficult.
Watchtower Group operators immediately tracked his movement and dispatched SRG Security, directing units to strategic points along Ocean View Drive and the surrounding stairways. This coordinated response ensured that the suspect was cornered, with no clear escape route back towards the mountain.
SRG Security apprehended the suspect on the section of High Level Road, near Firmount Road, as he attempted to flee down the stairs. He was detained and handed over to the South African Police Service.
The suspect was confirmed to be actively wanted in connection with two criminal cases. Detectives will now investigate whether he can be linked to further reported incidents.
Earlier this week, Watchtower Group was also notified by an Upper Sea Point resident, who uses another monitoring provider, of an attempted break-in that had not been detected. The same suspect is believed to have been involved in criminal activity in that road.
Jacques Weber, Director of Watchtower Group, said:
“This arrest is a powerful example of what proactive off-site monitoring and an immediate, coordinated response can achieve. We do not only protect our clients’ homes and properties; we care deeply about assisting to take repeat offenders off the streets.
“Our operators showed exceptional awareness this morning. By tracking the suspect, directing the response team and anticipating his escape route, they ensured that an individual who has caused concern across this area was brought into custody.
“This is why Watchtower Group has become the largest and most successful off-site monitoring company, achieving outstanding results throughout our 10 years of existence.”
The suspect is now behind bars. The matter has been handed to SAPS, and it is now for the investigation and justice process to take its course.
A superb joint effort by the Watchtower Group control room, SRG Security and SAPS.
