SUSPECT VEHICLE INTERCEPTED IN HILLCREST: FIVE APPREHENDED

On Saturday, 03 October 2026, at approximately 16:30, a vehicle matching the description of one allegedly used in a cellphone theft at a restaurant in Botha's Hill was detected passing a licence plate detection camera.

The Tracing Point Control Room immediately alerted the Tactical Response Unit (TRU), whose members swiftly responded and pursued the vehicle, which was intercepted and stopped along Inanda Road, Hillcrest.

All five occupants were apprehended, and the suspects, together with the vehicle, were handed over to Hillcrest SAPS for further investigation.

During the operation, a number of handbags and clothing items were discovered in the occupants' possession. These items will be subject to further investigation to establish their origin and determine whether they are linked to other reported crimes.

Well done to the Tracing Point Control Room and Tracing Point TRU for their vigilance, swift response and effective coordination.

Another example of how technology, teamwork and rapid response play a vital role in keeping our communities safe.
