Stop using bleach on your quartz tops. Here's what to use. 🧽

Quartz is tough, but three things damage it:

❌ Bleach and oven cleaner. They break down the resin that binds the quartz.
❌ Hot pots straight off the stove. Quartz is heat resistant, not heatproof. Use a trivet.
❌ Abrasive scouring pads on a polished finish.

✅ What works: warm water, a drop of dishwashing liquid, a soft cloth. That's it. No sealing, no polish, no special products.

Do that and it looks like day one in ten years.

Painted board fireplace? This is the one-day fix. 🔥

Full-height black quartz cladding with a recessed opening and a floating hearth ledge, installed in Johannesburg.

Painted surrounds discolour near the heat and date fast. Stone doesn't, and it never needs repainting.

The corners are mitred so the stone wraps without showing a raw edge. Most cladding jobs on an existing fireplace are a one-day install.

Who says a kitchen top has to be white or grey? 🔴

Red Sparkle quartz, installed in a Johannesburg scullery.

Not for everyone, and that's the point. In a small space, one strong surface sets the tone for the whole room.

Same quartz properties as any other colour: non-porous, no sealing, stain resistant. Just louder.

We carry white, grey, cream, black, marble-look and yes, red.

Two kitchens, same size, R8,000 apart. Here's why. 💸

Quartz is priced per linear metre, but three things move a quote more than the size does:

1️⃣ The island. You're pricing all 3 sides, not one run.
2️⃣ The edge. A mitred edge, which makes the top look thicker, uses more slab and more workshop time.
3️⃣ The sink. Undermount costs more than drop-in, because the opening is cut and polished from below.

And always compare quotes supplied AND installed. A slab-only price isn't a real price.

Cream cabinets? A cold white top will fight with them. ⚠️

Caramel quartz. Warm cream with a fine brown and grey speckle.

It's the one we recommend for kitchens with beige tiling, oak finishes or cream cabinetry, where a bright white would look out of place.

The speckle hides marks well, so it stays looking clean between wipes. Non-porous, no sealing needed.

That's not marble. And that's exactly the point. 🔥

Calacatta quartz fireplace cladding, fitted around a wood-burning insert in Johannesburg.

Real marble cracks and stains near heat. This gives you the same soft white with grey veining, and it stays looking like this.

We plan the slab layout so the veining runs across the wall instead of stopping at every join. That's the detail that separates a proper job from a cheap one.

Quartz or granite? Here's the honest 30-second answer. ⏱️

Choose QUARTZ if you want: premium stone, consistent colour across slabs, marble looks without the marble problems.

Choose GRANITE if you want: better heat resistance, a natural stone with unique patterning, and the lowest entry price.

What we tell clients: quartz for most kitchens, granite if you put hot pots straight down or you're working to a tight budget.

Neither is the 'better' stone. They're different tools.

No cabinet underneath. Still holds two basins without moving. 💪

A floating granite vanity top installed in Johannesburg. The steel bracket frame is fixed into the wall before the stone goes on, so there's no base cabinet needed.

Why people choose it: the floor stays clear, the bathroom feels bigger, and cleaning underneath takes seconds.

The thick front face is a mitred apron, which is what makes it look built-in rather than bolted on.

"White kitchen, but tired of wiping it twice a day? Try this instead. 👇

Grey Sparkle quartz. Mid-grey with mirror flecks running through the slab.

It hides crumbs, water marks and daily life far better than a white top, which is why we fit so much of it in family kitchens. Pairs especially well with charcoal and wood cabinets.

Tiles first or tops first? Most people get this wrong. 🤔

We install countertops BEFORE the tiling and painting, and it's deliberate.

Installers touch the wall while fitting the tops. Templating, lifting the slab, sealing the edges. If your tiles are already up, you're chipping brand new tiles on day one.

Tops first. Then tiling. Then painting. Every time.
