🌹 More than a century of charm — ‘Gruss an Aachen’
Some roses never lose their magic. Introduced in Germany in 1909, this beautiful heritage rose still enchants with its full, softly ruffled blooms and delicate, sweet fragrance.
Bred by Wilhelm Hinner and introduced by nurseryman Philipp Geduldig, its name means “Greetings to Aachen” — a tribute to the historic German city. It also holds a fascinating place in rose history: often described as the first Floribunda, it appeared long before that rose class was formally established!
Its flowers are a gentle unfolding of colour: blush pink and soft salmon tones mellow into creamy white, creating a lovely mix of shades on the same bush. Look closely at those petal-filled rosettes — there is so much beauty in every fold.
And this beauty keeps returning. ‘Gruss an Aachen’ repeat-flowers through the growing season, bringing fresh flushes of nostalgic blooms and fragrance to the garden. Its compact, bushy habit makes it a lovely choice for borders, pots and romantic cottage gardens.
A little piece of rose history, still making us stop and admire. 🤍
