Design Tip 12: CONNECTING YOUR HOME TO NATURE…
I believe by connecting your home to nature and blurring the boundaries between inside and outside, it will lead to a healthier and more productive life. Happy wife happy life? …well maybe it all starts with a happy healthy home….o”,)

Design Tip 11: YOUR BALCONY. I believe all balconies & patios should be at least 1800mm wide. Smaller balconies & decks are hardly ever used because there is normally no space for outdoor furniture. The space should feel right!!...not cramped. 'Metz Hilltop Cabin' by Jacques Orton Architects.

Design Tip 10: YOUR CHOICE OF EXTERIOR MATERIALS & FINISHES.
The choice of your exterior materials & finishes is most probably one of the most important considerations to keep in mind right from the start of your project. If you decided on the right materials & finishes, your home/building will have a timeless look that will age well. The wrong choice in finishes (& colours) will not only discredit the most beautiful design lines but also turn your building into a constant repair & paint exercise. Design Tip 9: YOUR LIVING ROOM
I believe your Living Room, intimate and not too far removed from the kitchen & living area of your home. Give it a generous view to the outside and if possible, link it to your outside patio. Now add a well designed fireplace & you have a winner!!

Design Tip 7: WAKING UP WITH THE SUN… Besides being located on the northern façade (south in the northern hemisphere) I believe your main bedroom (if possible) should be located on the eastern boundary to catch a few rays of that early morning sun. A Big glass door or even a thin ‘slit window’ will do the trick just fine. There’s something magical about the golden glow of the early morning sun… (La Belle by Jacques Orton Architects.)

A Question to the Bench; A BATH (standalone) in your Main Bedroom????...o”,)
I believe we should re-learn the art of bathing. Many Japanese homes even have a dedicated bathhouse…a room nestled in nature with ‘just a bath’…nothing more. A place to relax and unwind after a busy day.

Design Tip 6: A LONG THIN HOUSE...
The shape of a house has a big effect on the overall privacy of a home. I believe that the rooms of a small house can be strung out one after the other, for the distance between the rooms to be as far as possible. This way your home can be surprisingly narrow and still function perfect! 'Metz Hilltop Cabin' by Jacques Orton Architects.

Design Tip 5: The CABIN NEXTDOOR. I believe every home should have an extra Cabin/cottage where granny or even your noisy teenager can have a bit of privacy but still feel connected to the family. Or why not rent it out for extra income? A sneak peek at one of our latest projects – Metz Hilltop Cabin by Jacques Orton Architects.

Design tip 4: YOUR MAIN ENTRANCE. The placing of your entrance door is perhaps one of the most important considerations you make during the early stages of planning your home. I believe it should be located at a point where it can be seen immediately from the main avenues of approach. Now turn it into a bold bright and beautiful focal point that shouts, ‘walk this way!’

Your HOME OFFICE... Is it possible to create a space specifically for working from home, yet tucked away or located into an area of the living room with less traffic? I believe so... These days modern homes are getting smaller but also more versatile. Try to incorporate a little nook somewhere…a dedicated space where you can find some headspace and & get work done !
