Decisive Action in Response to Three Incidents in Culemborg Park, Randfontein
On 22 October 2026 at 13:15, Mapogo's control room received a panic signal from 5 Grosvenor Street, Culemborg Park, Randfontein.
Reaction Officer Waldo Meyer was immediately dispatched, with Officer William Brooks responding as backup. Both officers arrived on scene almost simultaneously at 13:19.
Upon arrival, the officers spotted a white BMW fleeing the scene. Officer Meyer gave chase while Officer Brooks tended to the client, who had been assaulted and robbed of her personal belongings.
While attending to the client, a second panic signal was received at 13:24 from a client just around the corner on Vergelegen Street, where suspects had entered the premises, held up the domestic staff, and taken their personal belongings.
After ensuring the first client was safe, Officer Brooks responded to Vergelegen Street. There, he learned that the suspects had jumped into a neighbouring property at 30 Constantia Street.
Officer Brooks heard someone calling for help from the Constantia Street premises and immediately proceeded to the address. On arrival, he saw a Ford Kuga fleeing the scene, and the owner confirmed it had just been stolen.
Officer Brooks immediately gave chase. The suspects abandoned the vehicle in Wol Street, Aureus, and fled into nearby bushes. Officer Brooks recovered the vehicle and returned it safely to its grateful owner.
All three crime scenes were handed over to SAPS Randfontein for further investigation.
Three live crime scenes. Two officers. One professional outcome.
The officers’ training, discipline, and situational awareness enabled them to prioritise the victims' safety, respond across multiple scenes, and remain composed as the incidents unfolded.
Although Officer Meyer was unable to apprehend the suspects who fled in the BMW, all three incidents were managed professionally, and the stolen Ford Kuga was successfully recovered.
Well done to Waldo Meyer and William Brooks for their swift response, sound judgment, and composure under pressure.
