I wanted to share the story of how I helped curate this collection of bonsai trees

This client acquired these bonsai trees for her home but didn’t love the traditional pots they came in…

So we custom designed a set of pots for her modern home

I suggested this grey finish with the paint feature to ensure the pots POPPED against the dark background

The secret to a happier Rattlesnake Calathea 🐍🌿

Those wavy, spotted leaves don’t just look striking. The Rattlesnake Calathea (Calathea lancifolia, now Goeppertia insignis) is part of the prayer plant family. Watch it closely and you’ll see its leaves lift at night and lower again in the morning.

Keep yours thriving with a few simple tips:
💧 Water: Keep the soil lightly moist, never soggy. Use rainwater or filtered water if you can, because calatheas are sensitive to chlorine and minerals in tap water. Crispy brown tips are the giveaway. ☀️ Light: Bright, indirect light. Direct sun fades and scorches those beautiful markings. 💦 Humidity: They love it! A pebble tray, a misty bathroom, or grouping it with other plants all help, especially in dry winter months or air-conditioned rooms. 🌡️ Warmth: Keep it away from cold draughts and aircon vents. 🌱 Feeding: A diluted liquid fertiliser once a month in spring and summer.
