at 9 years old debs was diagnosed with a rare, terminal form of bone cancer and given a death sentence, with an unbelievable amount of faith she fought and won her 12 year battle. at 39 against all odds an inspiring survivor and true hero, debs is unable to study and gain employment. and so being incredible creative and talented with her hands ; debs decided to use these talents and several years ago started a jewellery line realbydlb - where she specialises in making bespoke and personalised sterling silver jewellery. and then in 2016 her and her mom dee, an ex-commercial artist with a brilliant eye for interior décor and design, launched the sixpence range made up of gorgeous threecats shweshwe scatter cushions and linen bags from their home in cape town, south africa. All items are hand sewn by dee and debs and made with huge amount of love and, as they are both extremely particular – everything they make is done to perfection. debs and dee chose the shweshwe fabric not only because of its stunning prints and wide array of colours, but because its history is so closely connected to their heritage and the amazing country they call home, south africa. shweshwe - named for the fabric's association with Lesotho's King Moshoeshoe also spelled "Moshweshwe"- is a dyed cotton fabric manufactured in a variety of colours and printing designs characterised by intricate geometric patterns. shweshwe was traditionally used to make traditional african dresses, skirts, aprons and wraparound clothing and is still by tradition worn by newly married Xhosa women, known as makoti, and married Sotho women. the fabric is now used for linen and other home décor items such as those from the sixpence range. for now the sixpence range consists stunning threecats shweshwe scatter cushions. the cushions are 50 x 55cm making them different from your average square scatter cushion. these scatter cushions add a vibrant splash of colour or a beautiful neutral palate. combine the various designs in one specific colour way or mix them up to create a stunning colourful statement. all inners are made up of a fine fibre filling in a waterproof casing and can be puffed and manipulated just like down. we have also recently introduced a range of linen | multipurpose bags, also in threecats shweshwe fabric. these are one colour shweshwe with a trim in a complementary colour. all bags and scatter cushions can be made with the silhouette of your pet or animal of your choice sewn on the front. the sixpence range continues to expand into various items as interest is piqued. prices
