How do we design the next generation of homes for our ever-evolving lifestyles?

Director Jonny Wong was recently invited to moderate a thought-provoking discussion about the future of London's residential market at Perspective UK, hosted by THE PLAN. Looking at how changing lifestyles and economic circumstances affect housing expectations, the discussion explored different models for design across tenures, budgets and scales.

Whether delivering Built-to-Rent or a bespoke private home, quality and adaptability remain remain central to creating the homes that people want to live in for the long term.

Thank you to THE PLAN for inviting Jonny, and bringing together such an engaging conversation with the expert panellists: Graeme Davidson of HBA Residential, Simon Saint of Woods Bagot, Rhys Owen of pensaer., and Audrey Noel of Baumschlager Eberle.

Edinburgh’s tallest office building, reinvented.

Working with our client Cervidae, we recently secured planning permission for an upgrade of The Aspect Building, bringing Grade A workspace, a new rooftop terrace, and landscaped gardens to Edinburgh’s West End.

The consented plans involve a comprehensive refurbishment of the 1970s Exchange Tower, beginning with enlarged dual entrances to the building, and reimagining a forgotten car park into a landscaped courtyard.

The updated façade will use a sensitively designed palette, carefully selected to respond to the variable local weather conditions. Climate-responsive materials will take on new appearances in sun or rain – an authentic identity rooted in the physical atmosphere of the city. The re-clad tower will cut a striking figure against the Edinburgh skyline, defining the building’s presence on a prominent corner site.

At the heart of the building is The Canopy, a sixth-floor rooftop terrace and pavilion available to all occupiers, offering panoramic views across the city, and a space for informal meetings, events, and time away from the desk. Below, state-of-the-art end-of-trip facilities and cycle storage supports wellbeing and active travel, alongside excellent transport connections.

and have now launched The Aspect Building to market. Find out more at the link in bio.

How do we design spaces that work for everyone, with neuroinclusivity as the default?

For the third instalment of Discussions, Downstairs at dMFK, we’re bringing together three experts to explore how the workplace, and the wider built environment, can become more neuroinclusive.

Spatial design. Light, sound and air. The very practice of design itself. Everything is on the table.

Joining us on the panel:
🔹 Alexander Matthams, Associate Inclusive Environments Consultant at Buro Happold, NRAC-accredited with more than a decade of experience across stadia, museums, residential and commercial projects
🔹 Jessie Buckle, Architectural Designer and Inclusive Design Specialist, completing a PhD at UCL on epilepsy, climate and the built environment, and sitting on boards including the British Standards Institute and the International Bureau of Epilepsy (International Bureau For Epilepsy)
🔹 Dan Moscrop, Founder and CEO of THEM Design , the studio connecting brands, people and purpose through graphics, wayfinding, art and installations

Expect a lively debate, practical takeaways and plenty of time for your questions, followed by refreshments and networking.

Creating the next generation of architects starts here.

Young talent is essential for keeping the architecture and wider built environment sector alive, which is why we think it's critical to support the next generation through mentoring and training.

We supported Beyond the Box's Festival of the Future, hosted at the RCA Battersea Campus, two whole days of activities for people school age and above who are interested in getting involved in the industry.

Our workshop, 'Beyond the Blueprint', looked at the routes into architecture and what we do in our day-to-day, helping to showcase and inspire the potential next generation of the profession. In an interactive session, pupils had the chance to experiment with a floor plan and design a space, including selecting materials from our sample library to use.

Every architect started somewhere. For some of the students we met, it might have been here. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Beyond the Box for making it happen.

Unanimous planning received âś…

Last night, Goldhawk Mews won unanimous planning consent from the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. Our scheme for Fit Out UK Ltd will deliver 36 new homes - including over 36% affordable - on a constrained urban site in Shepherd's Bush.

A six-storey apartment block with sweeping balconies faces Goldhawk Road, while a quiet set of 12 mews houses sits behind, all connected by a linear park providing new green space for the community. 234 sqm of workspace will become the new home for Fit Out UK on the site.

The aim is simple: give the site a long-term use that works for the whole neighbourhood, and create a community where people want to be together.

Thank you to the brilliant team that made it happen, led by our client Fit Out UK: Rolfe Judd Planning, KMHeritage, Markides Associates, Point 2, H***e Lea, Meinhardt Group, Bespoke Property Consultants, Anderson Bourne, Exterior Architecture, Greengage Environmental Ltd, Hawkins Environmental Limited, Geotechnical & Environmental Associates, Conisbee, and Kanda Consulting.

It's not every day that a project you work on is immortalised in a Morris & Co. wallpaper.

The iconic Voysey House, which we restored for Dorrington and is now the home of Sanderson Design Group (of which Morris & Co. is part), has inspired a new wallpaper as part of a series paying homage to C.F.A. Voysey.

The visionary architect and designer, and key figure in the Arts & Crafts movement, constructed Voysey House in 1902, now a Grade II* listed building and the only example of his commercial work. The collection has all been designed in the Morris & Co. studio, with the striking Voysey House mural capturing the building's distinct glazed brick facade in a hand-drawn style.

dMFK restored Voysey House for Dorrington in 2022, restoring the century-old building to its former splendour, while creating versatile, best-in-class workspace and radically improving its operational efficiency.

Works are progressing on-site at The Carreras Building, one of London's most iconic Art Deco buildings, which we are refreshing for Lazari with a brand new, generous reception, lush communal spaces and terraces across the building. A greened, open frontage will strengthen the connection with the street and the city around it.

First developed in its signature Egyptian Revival style in 1928, the building has evolved from factory to office destination, and is now home to major commercial tenants such as fashion retailer ASOS, Clarion Housing Association, British Heart Foundation and Revlon International Corporation. Lazari's ambition is to continue this story with care: enhancing access, amenity, and communal spaces, whilst respecting the former factory's original character and iconic black cat statues.

Our vision for The Carreras Building is to create a joined-up, hospitality-driven experience. From an arrival sequence that matches the scale and presence of the structure, to a panoramic terrace and rooftop pavilion offering views of Camden, and an extensive, landscaped public realm that reactivates the building’s frontage on Mornington Crescent.

Tenants will benefit from the building's site at the intersection of the cultural, commercial and transport hubs of Camden, Kings Cross and Euston - within London's Knowledge Quarter and at a gateway for Euston's future HS2 station.

Join us at the Building the Future conference where Associate Director Dagmar Heiman will be showcasing one of our workplace projects - a bespoke HQ in a historic Mayfair building.

Dagmar will be discussing how dMFK interpreted an extremely bespoke brief to create a 50-person office which could foster connectivity and encourage a cultural shift towards a warmer, more collaborative environment - all working within a Grade II listed building. It's one of the reasons we took home Interior Architect of the Year in 2025 - an award we are honoured to be shortlisted for again this year.

Join us from 11:30am at the Doddington Forum 1, and read more about the project ahead of the conference at the link in bio.

If you're heading to the Building the Future Conference on 7th October, say hello to the team: Dagmar, Rebecca, Lawrence and Mathilda will all attending from dMFK.

Architects' Journal takes a deeper look at Bermondsey Heights: over 250 new homes sitting above 2,540sqm of industrial workspace on a tight urban site.

As part of the wider regeneration of the Old Kent Road Area, this development expresses how infrastructure can be fully integrated within a residential development, offering much-needed housing to industrial areas. The architecture references the warehouse character of Bermondsey, composed of robust brick facades and deep-set openings.

“Together with our collaborators, we have delivered a beautiful and enduring addition to the Old Kent Road area, bringing forward much-needed housing in a unique model, combining homes with essential warehouse and industrial space.”
— Jonny Wong, Director at dMFK
