The Long Awaited Home From DIY projects to weekend road trips in New England, there’s always something new here!

Sharing life in our old 1830 colonial farmhouse in New England - we may have an empty nest, but we have a full life (and 2 adorable pups to keep us on our toes).

Halloween with the most important people in the world to me. I’m voting blue up and down for their futures and your loved ones too. And just as importantly, for the most vulnerable in our country who need us to care. Please vote, and vote blue for a better future for us all. 🎃💙🎃

As we head into the weekend before the election, many of us are focused on the upcoming winter. Can we afford $6 a gallon heating oil? How can we cut our grocery list further, and are these foods even safe to eat? How are we ever going to pay for these huge increases to our health insurance? And when the issue of affordability is brought up to the current administration, it is treated like a joke. They don’t care how much it costs to fill our gas tanks, the oil companies and corrupt politicians that do their bidding are getting “filthy rich”. And regular Americans laugh like fools as they make plans to cut our Medicare. A young woman questioned JD Vance about how can young people have a family when prices are so high and he made a joke about how many questions were about Husted’s ass. These people think we are stupid. They blow off our concerns as they amass fortunes. Please vote like your life depends on it. 🗳️💙🇺🇸

🍁 A beautiful autumn day in Mason, New Hampshire at Pickity Place, the setting for the 1948 Little Golden Book, Little Red Riding Hood. We enjoyed a 5 course luncheon and great conversation with friends met through a shared interest in the writing of historian Heather Cox Richardson.
🍁From their About Us page:
Since 1786 our quaint little red cottage has graced the hills of southern New Hampshire, seemingly untouched by time. The enchanting cottage was chosen by Elizabeth Orton Jones as the model for her illustrations in Little Red Riding Hood (Little Golden Books, 1948). Today it is a mecca for gardeners, foodies and anyone looking for inspiration and relaxation.

The three red maples that line our driveway are usually the last to turn and the last to lose their leaves. They are the late stars of fall every single year. This year, they started changing color earlier than usual, and I was a bit worried because they looked more orange than red, but they never fail to come through. We have enjoyed them for weeks now, but today, they are in their most glorious moment of all. What a gift autumn is! 🍂🍁🍂

A beautiful October walk through the Acton Arboretum. There are so many free and low cost ways to enjoy autumn. I know not everyone lives where everyday feels like a Hallmark movie in fall, but wherever you live probably has places to explore that you’ve never been to. And many of these places are free. Another great resource is your local library where you can take advantage of passes to museums, zoos and historical sites. Get out there and explore my friends. There are always new places to discover! 🍂🍁🍂

We’ve been so busy this fall, and the weather has been so outstanding, that I’ve hardly shared any indoor photos. This is our tv room. For those who are new here, we DIYed most of the details. We removed the wall separating the dining room and tv room. The wood we used to make the beams are old floorboards from our attic. Brian built the wood wall/tv stand/ fireplace unit. The sofa is the IKEA Ektorp we’ve had for 14 years and is still in perfect condition. Vintage pieces that were either thrifted or found in vintage shops include the end table, the wooden wall sign, which is an old tray found under a barn in Maine, and repurposed into a permanent wall decor piece, the autumn watercolor painting, and the apple crate which was a gift from my son. We have been enjoying many cozy movie nights here this fall. 🤎
