My preschooler came home from school with THIS, and apparently identifying mysterious plastic objects is now part of my parenting duties.

It’s hard plastic, separates in the middle, and has magnets that hold the two halves together. At first glance, I’m thinking gardening tool… but this is an urban preschool, and why does it need to come apart like some tiny secret gadget??

The longer I stare at that amber handle and those pointy ends, the less confident I am about what I’m holding. Is this part of a toy? Something painfully obvious that everyone except me recognizes?

Please tell me what my child brought home, because I was prepared for finger paintings, not an identification challenge.

This came out of grandma’s closet, and apparently we’ve reached the part of cleaning where we need a full investigation. Nobody here knows what it is, and the longer I look at it, the less confident I feel about even guessing.

It has these thin hooks, a brush hanging from it, and a tiny horse on the front like that’s supposed to explain everything. Is it for clothes? Something to do with horses? Why does it look like it came with instructions everyone except us received decades ago?

I’m sure this was once a perfectly normal thing to own, but right now grandma’s closet has handed us a mystery. Does anyone know what this is actually for??

What the freak is this thing?? The shelf says “Kitchen Accessory” like that’s supposed to reassure me, but I’m looking at metal rollers, tiny teeth, and absolutely nowhere I feel comfortable putting my fingers.

At first I thought it was some kind of old-fashioned shredder. Then I noticed the smooth rollers beside it, and now I’m wondering what food apparently needs to be flattened AND interrogated before dinner.

I’m sure somebody’s grandma could work this thing with her eyes closed, but I need an explanation before I go anywhere near it. What is this actually for??

My mom’s new house has this little metal thing attached to the doorframe, and now I’m more invested in THAT than the actual house. Is it some sort of good luck charm? Something with a special meaning? Hopefully something lovely, because that’s the explanation I’m currently rooting for.

It’s mounted at an angle and has a little marking on it, so it clearly wasn’t just put there randomly. Meanwhile, I’m standing at the front door trying to understand something the previous owners probably wouldn’t have thought twice about.

Does anyone know what it is? I’d love to know what we’re walking past before my brain invents an entire backstory for it.

This came with a Jazzminton set, and apparently figuring out what it does is the first round of the game. No instructions. No explanation. I can’t even find a matching image on Google, so now I’m staring at this red plastic thing like it’s going to introduce itself.

It has a handle, four big openings, and what looks like a little roller down the middle. Am I supposed to swing it? Attach something to it? Why does every detail somehow make me LESS sure?

The ping-pong ball is just there for scale, because at this point the only thing I can confidently identify is the ball. Does anyone know what this is or how it belongs in the set??

I found this metal contraption in a kitchen drawer at my rented house and, without knowing what it was, immediately gave it a job. I’m short. Things disappear into the back of high cabinets. This thing brings them back. An excellent working relationship. 😂

I’m almost certain that is NOT its intended purpose, but it’s been so useful that I took it when I moved. Same landlord, so if she needs her mysterious kitchen equipment back, I can return it. Although apparently I’ll be surrendering my ability to reach half my stuff.

There wasn’t an appliance in the old house it obviously fitted into, and those bent hooks look like they’re meant for something very specific. Does anyone know what this actually is, or have I accidentally given a perfectly normal kitchen tool an entirely different career?

Just bought this at a thrift store, because apparently knowing what something DOES is no longer a requirement for me to bring it home.

It’s a worn wooden board with a forked end, a metal contraption in the middle, and a hook that somehow makes the whole thing more confusing. Every detail looks like it serves a very specific purpose. Unfortunately, none of those details are explaining themselves.

Is something supposed to slide into it? Get hooked onto it? Why does it look like I’m missing both the instructions and a skill everyone had in 1920?

Banana for scale, although it’s contributing absolutely nothing to the investigation. Can someone tell me what I’ve actually bought??

I’ve had this handmade ceramic thing for so long that I can’t remember whether I ever knew what it was for. At this point, it’s been living with me rent-free while keeping its entire purpose a secret.

It looks like a bowl… until you notice the spiral wall inside. Someone clearly put effort into that design, and I’m struggling to believe it’s just there to send a single olive through a maze.

Is it for serving something? Holding something? Am I missing an incredibly obvious use? Hand for scale, because apparently the only thing I can confidently tell you about it is the size. What IS this thing for??

Found this in the public bathroom at my job, and I have several questions, starting with… what am I even looking at??

It has a chunky wooden handle and a tiny rainbow-colored metal end that looks vaguely like a miniature butter knife. On a kitchen counter, I might not question it. In a PUBLIC BATHROOM? Suddenly, I need an explanation.

Is it a tool? Some kind of little spatula? Why does the handle look prepared for serious work while the other end looks ready to spread butter on a single cracker?

I’m sure someone will recognize it immediately, but right now the object AND its location are giving me two separate mysteries. What is this thing actually used for??

Spotted this at the thrift store, and it looks like something I’d need instructions AND supervision to use. It seems to be metal, with what looks like some kind of scale at the end, sitting in its own little fitted tray like it has a very important job.

My first thought was an instrument or measuring device… but measuring WHAT? The longer I look at the hollow handle and those oddly shaped openings, the less confident I feel about either guess.

Someone probably recognizes this instantly. Meanwhile, I’m trying to work out whether it belongs in a workshop, an orchestra, or an old doctor’s office. What is this thing??
