Founded in 1993, Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County, Inc. is a locally run affiliate of HFHI.

Habitat for Humanity Schenectady County gives hope and help to our community by acting as Family Advocate, Builder and Banker, providing decent, affordable housing solutions to families in need of a hand up. By partnering with local volunteers, churches, businesses, and others dedicated to eliminating poverty housing, Habitat builds new and renovated homes for selected Partner families who have a dream of home ownership and meet Habitat's criteria to become successful home owners.

We just wanted to take a moment to thank our amazing partners over at State Farm who not only give us a very generous grant every year towards our mission of affordable homeownership, but also encourage their agents and employees to come out and volunteer with us! This year we hosted the 1st Annual State Farm Community Build Day Series, five build days sponsored by State Farm. We're grateful to have such generous and supportive partners alongside us in this work! It's good to have a good neighbor! ☺️

Yesterday we had our third and final day of Women Build for 2026 with a great group of women including some of our longtime volunteers, a couple ladies from ServPro (one of whom had to drive over 2 hours to get there), a mother and daughter duo, and Kim (the director from the YWCA who took a day away from her own mission to come serve ours). The day was all about sheetrock and taping!

The absolutely delicious lunch was donated by Meat & Company (Niskayuna) - pulled pork and chicken, mac & cheese, cornbread, and salad. Everything was amazing and people couldn't stop talking about how great it was.

We just want to once again thank all three lunch donors across the week Ferrari's Ristorante, Meat & Company, and our long time donor Alltown Fresh who has been donating lunches to keep our construction volunteers going since they first built the Alltown Fresh location on Erie Blvd. Thankful to have such great businesses who are willing to donate out of their own profits to give our volunteers a great meal and keep our mission of affordable homeownership going!

We had another great day of Women Build over the weekend learning about vinyl plank flooring and how to install and tape sheetrock! We got to meet a lot of new folks and also welcome back some returning volunteers and even a previous AmeriCorps service member from over a decade ago. Days like this are a good reminder of all the people it takes to keep our mission of affordable homeownership going, and it's encouraging to remember all the people who have carried the torch over the years! One more Women Build day to go! 👏🔨👷

We had an amazing time with our first crew of Women Build volunteers yesterday learning all about the art of sheetrock! Thank you to the group from Fenimore Asset Management who volunteered and sponsored the day and to Ferrari's Ristorante who donated an absolutely delicious lunch! Two more days to go! 💪👷🏼‍♀️-

State Farm has been a multi-year sponsor, providing funding towards our home builds as well as financial education classes for our future homeowners. It's always a pleasure to have the team from Casino Schenectady on the build site! Rivers has been a long time supporter of our work here at Habitat since the day they opened their doors, both as a sponsor and by putting in the muscle to move our homes along!
