My little love letter to Mac: the 5 reasons I give when I’m converting someone, and it only takes me 90 seconds. 💌

I resisted for years. I gotta tell you, it’s better on the other side.

Comment APPLE to get on the pre-sale list: the paid Mac course launches for pre-sale TUESDAY, and the list is the only way in.

Ummm … I’m a little worried today’s lesson will confuse you more than help you. But stay with me! It gets clearer as we go, I promise.

Don’t forget: Pre-sale for the Mac course opens this week and you can only purchase it if you’re on the pre-sale list. Comment APPLE to add your name.

Day 5 of our Mac series!

Here’s where you should be saving things:

🖥️ Desktop. Don’t save here! I keep mine completely clean, with an image that makes me happy. It’s the difference between a desk with crap all over it and a clean one that makes you want to work.

⬇️ Downloads. Only for temporary stuff! Downloads is for things you’ll truly never need again, like a software download.

📁 Documents. This is where your clear folder structure lives: Home, Family, Financial, Cars, Kids. Drag those folders into Favorites in the sidebar so they’re always one click away.

☁️ OR another cloud home base. love Dropbox (it’s agnostic, it goes with you whether you’re Mac or PC) and Google Drive, and both can live right inside your Finder with their desktop apps. I use Google for collaborative docs and Dropbox as my main filing cabinet.

Your marching orders: decide what your home base is, and start sketching the cleanest, simplest folder structure you need.

“But Amanda, how do I get all this MESS into the folders?” Tomorrow. I got you.

Comment APPLE for the pre-sale list and I’ll send you the link. Make sure you’re following me so my DM comes through!

Day 4 of our Mac series, and a crazy thing happened!

You are looking at the newest columnist for Inc. Magazine. 🥹

Comment INC and I’ll send my very first Inc. Magazine article straight to your DMs.

My first one, live TODAY, is all about Finder, exactly what we’re covering in this series. It walks you through:

1️⃣ What the heck Finder actually is

2️⃣ Where to save things. Desktop? Downloads? Documents? Google Drive? I settle it.

3️⃣ Creating a folder structure and dragging your favorites to the sidebar, so you stop clicking a million times to find a folder

4️⃣ Customizing your Finder toolbar, aka yesterday’s video, explained step by step

5️⃣ Group by kind: a sneak peek of our next video. It’s going to make you cry little tech tears.

6️⃣ Tip 6 got cut off on the video so I guess you’ll just have to check out the article! ;)

Your marching orders today: Comment INC for the link. Make sure you’re following me so it comes through!

Full instructions below!

First, comment APPLE to get on the pre-sale list: the paid Mac course pre-sale launches NEXT TUESDAY, and the list is the only way to buy it.

Day 3 of our free Mac series! If your Mac feels like a junk drawer because Finder makes no sense, you are not alone. Nobody taught you this stuff. Until you found me. 💁🏻‍♀️

Your first Finder mission: customize that toolbar.

1️⃣ Open Finder and right-click any blank space on the toolbar at the top. (Two-finger tap, Control + Click, or an actual right mouse click. We’re learning to right-click, right?)

2️⃣ Choose Icon and Text. Yours probably says Icon Only, which is why you’re staring at confusing little icons with no idea what they mean.

3️⃣ Right-click again and choose Customize Toolbar. Things start to wiggle, like when you move apps around on your phone.

4️⃣ Drag up the helpful ones: New Folder, Delete, Path, Group, AirDrop, Quick Look. (What do they all mean? Later videos. Promise.)

5️⃣ Now click New Folder to make a folder, or Delete to trash something. One click.

And when the tech bros come at me with “why aren’t you teaching them shortcuts?”: because we’re TIRED, and we can’t remember that many. A shortcuts cheat sheet is coming later in the series. For now, no Control + Shift + hokey pokey required.

Those are your marching orders. Customize that toolbar, and get ready to say “I can’t believe my files have been hiding in there this whole time.”

Comment APPLE for the pre-sale list and I’ll send you the link. Make sure you’re following me so my DM comes through!

Day 2 and we’re STILL on the Dock because this makes your Mac FASTER.

See those tiny black dots under your apps? That means they’re STILL OPEN. Even if you’re not using them.

Look at your Dock right now. How many dots do you have? 👀

Right-click (two-finger tap or Control+click) -> Quit. Close the ones you don’t need. Instant speed boost.

Then get fancy: Settings -> Desktop & Dock. You can move it to the side, make the icons BIGGER, turn on the zoom thing, and STOP it from disappearing on you.

Missed Day 1? Go watch that first — that’s the big cleanup.

Want me to share my screen and walk you through it all? Comment APPLE and I’ll send you the presale link. Make sure you’re following so my DM comes through.

Comment APPLE and I’ll send you the link to join the pre-sale for my Mac companion course! 🍎

Day 1 of our brand new Mac series! We’re starting with something so simple yet so satisfying: your Dock.

The Dock is that strip of icons at the bottom of your Mac (or on the side). It’s supposed to hold the workhorse apps you use all the time.

But it’s probably packed with little icons you have no idea what they mean. GarageBand? Freeform (that squiggly thing)? Pages, News, Apple TV? I bet you’re not using them.

Here’s what I want you to do:

1️⃣ Right-click each icon you’re not using. On a trackpad, that’s a two-finger tap. You can also do Control + click, or right-click with a mouse.

2️⃣ Choose Options, then “Remove from Dock.” Sometimes it says “Keep in Dock” with a check mark instead. Click it to uncheck it.

3️⃣ Watch your icons get bigger as the Dock gets less crowded. 🙌

4️⃣ See the vertical line near the end? Apps on the far side of it are only open right now. If you use one all the time, slide it over to keep it in your Dock.

Don’t worry, removing something from the Dock doesn’t remove it from your Mac. It still lives in your Applications folder, or you can find it with Command + Space (Spotlight search).

There’s so much more to cover about the Dock: what those little black dots mean, how to keep it from disappearing, and where all those minimized windows go. Stay tuned!

This is a free Instagram series. If you want my paid companion course where I walk you through it all step by step, comment APPLE and I’ll send you the pre-sale link. Make sure you’re following me so my DM comes through!

Comment CHALLENGE to grab the 7-Day Gmail Challenge: it's open to everyone until FRIDAY, and there are cute little coupons expiring every day.

Day 16 of our Gmail series! Tonight's topic is one I've been avoiding because it can get confusing: the important flag. That little flag next to the star. Most people have no idea what it's for.

1️⃣ Clicking the flag on (or off) trains Gmail. Next time that sender emails you, Gmail already knows whether YOU think it's important.

2️⃣ In your left sidebar there's an Important category: every flagged email, all in one place.

3️⃣ Filters can do it automatically. Tell Gmail to always (or never) mark a certain sender as important.

4️⃣ Where it really pays off: your inbox view. Try Important first, or Priority inbox, which splits things into important and unread, then starred, then a section YOU choose (hi, Action needed), then everything else.

The confusing part: once you READ an important email, it slides down to everything else. You didn't do it wrong. That's how it works.

Don't see the flags at all? Cog, See all settings, Inbox tab, Importance markers. If Show markers is already on, flip it to No markers, save, flip it back to Show markers, and save again. They'll appear.

Use it or skip it, it's one more way to make Gmail match YOUR brain. Tell me what you think below!

Comment CHALLENGE for the paid companion course to this free series. Cart closes Friday and the coupons are disappearing daily. Make sure you're following me so my DM comes through!

Day 14 of our Gmail series! I was a little MIA, but I’m back, and tonight we’re getting rid of the emails that are driving you crazy.

(Comment INTERESTED if you want the deep dive Gmail course! It’s opening to the general public this week.)

You need to know the difference between three things:

1️⃣ Unsubscribe: for emails you signed up for and no longer want. You said yes once, and you’re allowed to change your mind.

2️⃣ Spam: for emails you NEVER signed up for. Marking it as spam blocks that sender and sends them straight to spam going forward.

(Please don’t mark small businesses as spam! You’d be telling the email universe they’re emailing you illegally. Unsubscribe instead.)

3️⃣ The delete-on-arrival filter, for when neither one works: open the email, click the three dots up top, choose Filter messages like these, click Create filter (not Search!), then check Delete.

That last one tells your Gmail intern: “Don’t even bring that email to my desk. Put it in YOUR trash can.”

Want the bulk clean-out version? Manage subscriptions is in the Day 2 video, and Day 3 covers what to do if you can’t find the button.

It’s a big week: I’m putting the final touches on the Gmail course right now. Pre-sale buyers, it lands in your inbox TOMORROW. Missed the pre-sale? Comment INTERESTED and I’ll DM you when the cart opens Tuesday. Make sure you’re following me so it comes through!
